Got an official email about my inclusion as an active member in the World Renowned Visual FX organisation, The Visual Effects Society… a dream come true. Just waiting for the day a dedicated India Chapter to be fully explore the potential of the association.
Continuing my series of my VFX inspirations and people behind those.
Well if Matrix was the WOW for machines the ultimate creature impact on my days of inspiration was Jurassic Park which is still one of my favorites.Real genius people to devise such an impact to cast a Computer Generated creature as such a central character… T-Rex and all the other creatures were simply amazing and so believable.
My interest in fantasy characters and creatures took a big leap when I learnt how much time and effort was involved in creating that magic on screen and this was really pioneering at the time the first Lord of Rings movie came out… Jim Rygiel became to be VFX guru and my dream of working with him became reality on Gullivers travels at Geon. This effort was recognized by the Best VFX Oscar that year.
In my opinion the base of Visual Effects industry is the passion to achieve something that has not been done, some thing that has not seen before. Everyone strives really hard to achieve that and once we get …then …at that when see the work in front and someone sees it and WOW… that’s the satisfaction that drives our industry.
If you think of inspirations , my personal ones are really the ground breaking stuff by all the renowned Hollywood directors and the entire cast and crew of the projects. Here’s a series of makings which are really amazing.
1 ) Inception : Defying Gravity
However the most inspiring moments for me as a child was watching movies like E.T. and the Flight of the navigator
esp. the part where the steps come out in floating air and the kid actually steps on them to get in to the spacecraft…
“I’ll Be Back” became my favorite moment of the robotic marvel in Terminator 2 and was absolutely spell bound. James Cameron’s one of the gem of the movie. My best moment was the highway chase and the blast and reformation of the bad guy.
Then after a few years the meaning of Machines v/s Human was rewritten by one legendary movie…. ” The Matrix” which really was ground breaking in terms of it’s viewing experience… a fairy tale with a difference…
Prime Focus just finished work on some amazing VFX work in the upcoming Bond style flick Agent Vinod. The Indian VFX scenario is vastly improving with more elaborate Visual Effect sequences and quality standards. Last year the big ticket release in this domain was Shahrukh Khan’s Ra.One which did a great business despite critics beliefs and this Kkrish 2 promises to go a step further, this is definitely an exciting time in the Indian VFX scenario.
The Lord of the Rings has been one of my all time favorite movie series. The most fascinating imagery of it’s time and was really and inspiration for me in particular to pursue a career in Visual Effects.
And from the same makers now comes the prequel .. the journey of Bilbo Baggins …. Awaiting Peter Jackson’s Magic Again !!
Now this season we are gonna witness two movies with a same story but with a different take on the genre.
Here’s the first one
And Here’s second
Well I feel the first one gone more towards the action genre while the second one explores it in a bit more humorous way. While the box office fate may be other wise but I feel Mirror Mirror does justice to the story in a more Harry Porter style of story telling.. keeping it enjoyable for the kids too.
Now this one is really special ..much anticipated reboot of a immensely popular trilogy of Spidy… Touted to be the a more friendlier version of the comic book .. hope it creates a much better character graph to develop the story more with interesting plots and characters.
